: Howard Stern starts his new show ...

Howard Stern has moved to satellite radio and started his new show.  Satellite radio company, Sirius, is really counting on Howard Stern to get market share, but ... what's so great about satellite radio?  Why not Potcast?  What's wrong with internet radio?

It might be that the only real draw is no advertisements. But there are more people who are willing to put up with things being free through advertising, than those who are not. Sirius is counting on the demand of Howard Stern to add marketshare, but they should be doing many other things they are not to increase market share as well.

Howard Stern was talking about cable 25 years ago, and he was saying that everyone ridiculed cable.  Yet cable is the TV today; there is really no traditional broadcasting.  I don't think that the comparison is the right one because there were only traditional broadcasting and cable back then.  There is internet today, while Wifi is creating its strong presence as a part of internet.  Given that, the future scenario of satellite radio wouldn't be exactly like cable, IMO.

I agree with that analysis. The Internet and its different mediums are boundless, and they are added to every year. Pay-for Satellite radio will more than likely continue to be a smaller, more premium niche than the many cheaper, Internet based transmissions.
