planting on a hideous hill

I have a hill with a steep grade in my front yard down to the street.  It was planted with mounding weed type things that after 5 years I have finally ALMOST eradicated.  It gets LOTS of sun on the largest side - about 30' long - what can I plant that won't take over the world but naturalize and look better than everyone's suggestion of juniper - boring? ]  Live on the upper eastern shore of maryland - not really sandy where I am at - good ole' maryland clay

Hello and welcome,

In California on the west coast, flowering ice plant is great for situations like that.  A single color like all purple, or mixing colors; either way, the flowering is a nice touch and the ice plant provides a great ground cover and grows slowly.  The full sun will guarantee flowering, but too much shade will prevent it.

Not sure about your climate though, maybe it is too cold in the winter for the ice plant?  Does it grow naturally on the roadside at all in Maryland?  If so, that is a good sign that it will work!

I live in MD and did plant the flowering Ice Plant on a small incline and I love it.  I choose Mauve & yellow.  The yellow haven't down too well on the flowering, but the Mauve open up during the day.  I like them because to me they remind of Daisey, that i love.  I wish the nursery that I went to had had the Orange ones
