Cotoneaster selection for new project
« on: February 24, 2008, 11:38:08 am »
We have a home in southwest Michigan, zone 5 with sandy soil. We have just built a 3 foot high stone retaining wall in our south facing front yard which gets sun and part sun throughout the day. I want to plant a row of cotoneasters along the top of the wall for a showy display that will cascade over the wall. I want a little bit of height so am not looking for a low ground cover variety.

I have read about several varieties: Apiculatus, Horizontalis, and Microphyllus Thymifolius, all of which are zone 5 and have a habit that sounds like a good match for the project.

I would appreciate any suggestions along with where to purchase plants for planting this spring.

Thanks,
