Definition

Describes a compound leaf that is fully divided into leaflets arising from a single basal point; it is often also used loosely to mean lobed in a hand-like form. 3-palmate leaves are divided into three leaflets, and are often also referred to as trifoliolate, ternate, or, incorrectly, trifoliate. 5-palmate leaves are divided into five leaflets, and may also be described as digitate.
