Acacia baileyana purpurea

Cootamundra Wattle, Purple-leaf Acacia, Bailey Acacia

These lushly flowering trees and multi-trunked large shrubs are known as 'wattles' in Australia. Grown only in mild winter areas, they thrive in most soils and are drought-tolerant once established. Most have small, round, fluffy flowers that are grouped in clusters, bloom early in the year, and attract birds. They grow quickly, and live only 20 to 30 years. Water deeply and infrequently to encourage deep rooting. Prune to thin and prevent wind damage. Remove bare branches at the trunk. Prone to the pest Acacia psyllid.
