Achillea tomentosa 'King Edward VIII'

Woolly Yarrow

One of the hardiest, least-demanding perennials for hot and dry locations, Achillea's flattish flower clusters bloom generously in many colors and provide excellent cut and dried flowers. Fire retardant and somewhat drought-tolerant once established they need full sun, but tolerate most soils with good drainage. Their gray-green leaves are aromatic. Do not over-water or over-fertilize, as plants grow weak stems that make poor dried flowers. Deadhead to encourage further bloom. Start from seed or division.
Achillea tomentosa, Woolly Yarrow
Its mat of woolly greenish gray leaves and pale yellow flowers fills the nooks and crannies of a rock garden, or neatly edges a perennial border.
