| Similar to calla-lillies with long stems and hooded flowers, these tuberous plants are most often seen in moist woods. Many species from Asia, although less hardy than American types, have fantastically shaped flowers and are sometimes available through specialty nurseries. Jack In The Pulpit and Dragon Root types, better known in the United States, bear pea-sized red or orange-red berries after blooms fade. All varieties thrive with moist soils in partial shade. Bait for snails, and watch for rust, leaf spot and leaf and stalk blight. |
