Beaucarnea stricta

Unusual palm-like trees with distinctly swollen trunk bases and crowned with long, slender, gracefully displayed evergreen leaves. Common to deserts and semi-desert regions of the Southwest and Mexico, these are best in nearly frost-free locations outdoors or as houseplants elsewhere. Tiny, white flowers may not appear until tree is very old. Water all but container-grown plants sparingly.
Beaucarnea stricta
Clusters of spiny leaves at the top of tall trunks make this look less like a palm and more like a yucca or Joshua Tree than others of its species.
