Borago officinalis

These tough annual to perennial Mediterranean natives are drought- and heat-resistant and tolerant of sun, shade and exposed or windy sites. Freeze fresh edible flowers in ice cubes or candy to garnish desserts. They also make good cut flowers. Hairy, cucumber-flavored leaves are good in salads, cold drinks or pickles. Plant it behind borders and in herb gardens. Bees love the flowers. In spring or fall, sow seed directly in ground. Will self-seed.

Intensely blue, saucer-shaped flowers nod atop this most commonly grown Borago. 'Alba' has white flowers.
