Old Man of the Mountains

These slender, ribbed, mostly shrubby Cacti bloom in red or orange tube- or funnel-shaped flowers. They also have globe-shaped, fleshy fruit and dry, split seed pods. Long white hairs surface where spines are dense. Need temperatures above 50º F or else orange spots appear on the stems. Hose down plants to remove dust. Apply fertilizer to moist soil only during growing season.

Mature plants have tube-shaped, sull pink flowers with purple anthers. Branches appear near the plant's base. Woolly hairs appear around heavy golden and wispy white spines.
