Bougainvillea 'San Diego'
Bougainvillea 'Scarlett O'Hara', Bougainvillea 'San Diego Red'
These tender, heat-loving, vigorous-growing vines and low shrubs sport brilliantly-colored flowers. Many types have dangerous, stout spines. Use tall-growing vines on fences, trellises, and as sprawling ground covers. Tie and intertwine vines on strong supports to prevent wind and rain damage. Use short mounding shrubs in containers, hanging baskets, and small spaces. They need heat, sun and well-drained soil. Where there is frost, place vines against a warm wall or plant in a protected place. Transplant only during warm growing season, and do not disturb fragile roots. Reduce watering and fertilizer in mid-summer to promote flowering, and in late summer to enhance winter hardiness. In Zone 10, they can bloom throughout the year. |

Long-blooming, vigorous and hardy, this excellent vine has brilliant deep-red flowers. Does not lose its deep green leaves even during cold spells.
