Glossy seedheads like rattlesnake rattles dangle from the threadlike stems of this ornamental grass. A delight for eye and ear, they glow when backlit and rustle in the breeze. Sprays are lovely accent for fresh and dried arrangements. New seedheads start off in shades of green, red or purple, turning golden as they dry. Growing naturally in field and pasture, they like full sun and poor soil. Need no water once established. Pick stems for drying when fully developed, but do it just before the flowers open, or the dried seedheads will fall apart. |

Takes full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, fertile soil. Cut back old flower stalks and tattered leaves in late winter or early spring to rejuvenate.
