An attractive flowering evergreen for mild climates like southern California, this single species ranges from shrub-size up to 60 feet tall. The dense clusters of fluffy stamens resemble acacia blossoms. Glossy 4-inch leaves have fuzzy undersides. Plant in a sunny spot with fairly moist, well-drained, fertile soil and some shade from the hottest summer sun. Water moderately in spring and summer, sparingly the rest of the year. Does best where winter temperatures stay above 45º F, but will survive brief, light frost with protection of a warm southern wall. Grow from seed or cuttings. |

Is starts blooming when just 2 or 3 feet high.
