Incense Cedar, Libocedrus decurrens

Called Incense Cedar because of their aromatic scalelike leaves, many of these are rare New Zealand natives. One is from California. They have cinnamon-colored furrowed bark and brownish cones. While often planted singly in lawns, or in rows as a screen, these evergreens are also prized for their rot-resistant timber. Will not tolerate smog or wind. Prefer moist soil and full sun to light shade. No pruning needed.

This tree is slow growing at first, then grows up to 2 feet per year. Many cultivars with different growth habits, foliage colors, and sizes are available.
