They flower in the fall when little else is in bloom. Their trunks, with their prominent thick spines, have a primitive look. The silky seed floss was once used for stuffing pillows in their native South America. Needs good drainage.

Big flowers 6 inches across in white to yellow, instead of pink like the more commonly planted Chorisia speciosa.
