Clethra alnifolia

Summersweet Clethra, Sweet Pepperbush

Named for its summer-blooming, fragrant flowers, Summersweet performs best in acid, moist, organic soils. It spreads slowly by suckers to form broad colonies. Blossoms on the current year's growth. Found on the coast from Maine to Florida, this native shrub is salt-tolerant. Plant in full to partial shade in warm summer climates. Mite damage may occur in dry climates. Available in white and pink flowering cultivars.
