Clivia miniata is an outstanding shade plant in Zones 10 and 11 (Zone 9, too, with some protection from frost). It flaunts large clusters of orange trumpet-like flowers, followed by red berries, and glossy, strap-like evergreen leaves. Mostly March to April bloomers, in warmer climates blooming season can begin in December. Use them in borders. A great house plant for cold climates, set them outdoors in summer. Excellent as container patio plants elsewhere, as plants bloom best when pot-bound. Grow with ferns, Azaleas and other shade-loving plants. Fertilize monthly during spring and summer to encourage flowering. Divide in spring, though the plants like crowded roots. |

Along with the types that bear clusters of 10 to 20 deep orange flowers with yellow centers, growers offer varieties with salmon, yellow, scarlet, and white blooms.
