Colvillea racemosa

One species of this rare flowering tropical tree exists, grown from a single tree cultivated by natives in Madagascar. Allied to Royal Poinciana, it also rivals it for color and bloom. Each 1½-foot-long flower cluster is densely crowded with up to 200 scarlet blooms with bright yellow stamens. It has large leaves and many leaflets. Difficult to find and cultivate.

This thick-trunked tree has large, pyramidal racemes of 2-inch-wide flowers from fruit up to 6 inches long. Leaves reach 3 feet long.
