Consolida ambigua

Delphinium ajacis, Annual Delphinium

One of the best cut flowers, they are hardy annuals available in a variety of colors. Plant in front of evergreen shrubs or hedges to best show off the cheery blooms. Entire plant, including seeds, is poisonous. Larkspurs cannot take intense summer heat, so sow seeds as early as possible -- in fall in warm climates or spring elsewhere for early bloom. Stew seeds where plants are to grow in a sunny spot sheltered from strong winds. Tall plants may need staking.
