Cordyline terminalis

Palm-like evergreen shrubs and trees have leaves high on woody trunks like Joshua Trees. Leaves are 1 to 2 feet long and tinged with purple or red. Some types, such as Cordyline australis and Cordyline indivisa, bear decorative flowers. Most types are frost tender and can be planted outdoors only in warm regions. They are often used as houseplants elsewhere. Cordyline australis is hardy to 15º F. Cut back when young to keep plant full and bushy. All types except Cordyline terminalis tolerate some aridity.

Hawaiians once used the leaves of the Ti Plant to make hula skirts and prepared an intoxicating beverage from its roots. From 'logs' imported from Hawaii. Tolerates low light but needs humidity.
