Cryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana'

The dense blue-green needles on these trees or shrubs often turn bronze in winter. Drooping branch tips look like fat fingers and are dotted with globe-shaped cones. Peeling bark is reddish brown. Grows best in partial shade in inland northern areas where it is hardy. Growth is fast when tree is young and slower as it ages. Will not tolerate excessive summer heat or little rainfall. Prefers acid soil.
Cryptomeria japonica
This slow-growing, globe-shaped type is prized for its tidy appearance. Like people, the tree and its lower regions thicken with age. Use in rock gardens, containers, in foundation planting where low maintenance is desired.
