Davidia involucrata vilmoriniana

Dove Tree, Ghost Tree, Handkerchief Tree

When they flower in May, these deciduous trees appear to be covered with white doves or handkerchiefs fluttering in the breeze. Although lovely, the Dove Tree or Handkerchief Tree is planted infrequently because it may take years to bloom. Give it plenty of room and shelter from strong winds. The Dove Tree is striking when set off by backgrounds of dark greens.

Large, white, fluttering bracts make this tree showy enough to plant singly. Leaves are glossy pale green or blue-green underneath. Brown, golf-ball, sized fruit hangs on tree well into winter.
