Diospyros kaki

Japanese Persimmon

One of the most ornamental of fruit trees, persimmons offer spring flowers, edible fruit, fall color and a handsome winter branch pattern. Excellent shade trees. Plant male and female trees for fall fruit production. Prune to remove deadwood and to shape tree. Be consistent with light feeding, and infrequent but deep watering to prevent premature fruit drop. Deep taproots make trees difficult to transplant.
