Distictis buccinatoria

Scarlet Trumpet Vine, Blood Red Trumpet Vine, Phaedranthus buccinatorius

These climbing vines grow quickly to cover an arbor, wall or trellis with trumpet-shaped flowers. Evergreen, they grow as much as 20 feet in a season. Winged seedpods follow flowers. Needs shade during hottest part of the day, and protection from winter winds. Start from stem cuttings taken in spring. Space vines one foot apart near trellis or wire supports. Avoid rampant growth and poor flowering by using light fertilizers only. Prune to control growth after flowering.
