Native to Europe, the Canary Islands, Africa and West Asia, they have various leaf forms and flowers in clusters or spikes, as well as bristly hairs or even harder bristles. Water freely in summer, moderately at other times. Propagate by seed in spring or by semi-ripe cuttings in summer. Susceptible to whitefly.
