A western United States and Mexican native, it is best for rocky slopes, informal landscapes and remote spots where irrigation does not reach. Strongly scented shrub can reach 5 feet. Leaves may drop in drought. Grow young plants in cans or other containers until they are ready for a permanent location.

This aromatic shrub with silvery leaves needs occasional water in summer.
