Endymion hispanicus

Spanish Bluebell, Hyacinthoides hispanicus, Scilla campanulata

Spanish and English bluebells are lovely spring bulbs that thrive with little attention. Resembling slender, untamed hyacinths, these woodland natives are best in informal drifts under trees and shrubs, along shaded paths or among low-growing perennials. Mulch in fall and fertilize in spring. Divide when they get too crowded. Many garden shops sell these as Scilla.

As its name suggests, the widely planted Spanish Bluebell bears bell-shaped flowers usually in blue, but cultivars are available in white, pink, and violet.
