Eucomis comosa

Pineapple Lily, Eucomis punctata

These exotic-looking summer- and autumn-blooming bulbs are grown for their dense flower spikes topped by overlapping bracts that look like the top of a pineapple. Eucomis comosa is probably the most attractive in bloom, with tall, elegant flowers and attractive seed pods that turn wine-colored. Plant the Pineapple Flower in spring in beds, in front of shrub borders or in containers. Mulch heavily in severe winters.
