Ferocactus cylindraceus

Compass Barrel Cactus

Famous for setting the scene in Westerns, these classic barrel cacti with thick ribs and large spines grow to enormous proportions over time. The southwestern and Mexican natives reach 10 feet tall and weigh up to hundreds of pounds. Colorful summer flowers stand in solitude atop their stems. May suffer root rot without excellent drainage. Water little or not at all in summer.
