Fragaria 'Pink Panda'
Strawberry
Fresh, juicy Strawberries are one of the sweetest of fruit treats, but some Strawberry plants are grown as ornamental perennials in containers, as ground covers or as border edging. Most have white flowers on short-stemmed, dark green, glossy leaves, and long runners. A commonly grown ground cover, Fragaria chiloensis, is 6 to 8 inches tall and blooms in summer. Its bright red fruit attracts birds. Grow in sun or shade, especially if soil is slightly acid. Fragrance of fruit is said to reduce anxiety. Plant in rows for a better yield or in hills for higher quality fruit. In cold winters, protect plants with mulch. |

The only Strawberry with bright, pink flowers, it is good as a semi-evergreen, small-scale ground cover. Flowers spring through fall. Fruit is edible.
