| These upright or spreading evergreen shrubs perform best in semi-shady woodland gardens. Urn-shaped, whitish flowers attract bees and develop into fleshy fruits, many of which are colorful and aromatic, and attract birds. Salal and Wintergreen are valued for their dense masses or rich green, leathery leaves. Some are slow-growing when first planted, but once established, spread aggressively.
