Helianthemum

Sun Rose

Short-lived, 5-petaled flowers of yellow, rose, red, white or purple with yellow or orange centers bloom on this trailing, evergreen ground cover. Flowers open from early summer to mid-summer. Earlier-blooming types have larger flowers than late-bloomers. Small leaves are hairy and soft. Use this vigorous Mediterranean native in rock gardens in full sun and dry soil. Best from cuttings, though also started by division and seed. Trim after first bloom to encourage heavy autumn flowering. Protect from harsh winter temperatures.
Helianthemum, Sun Rose
Popular forms are from the early-blooming H. nummularium. Fire-resistant, it flowers in yellow, pink, red, orange, or white. Each flower lasts one day, but buds continue to open.
