Helleborus orientalis

Lenten Rose, Christmas Rose

Highly-prized, long-lived perennials with evergreen foliage. Winter to early spring-blooming flowers come in a wide range of colors. Excellent for perennial borders, woodland gardens and as cut flowers. Plant with Azaleas, Rhododendrons and ferns. The Helleborus Niger is called the Christmas Rose because legend has it that it bloomed on the first Christmas Eve. Slow to re-establish after transplant. Grows slowly by seed. Divide in late summer or fall.
