Hesperaloe parviflora

A yucca-like plant with clumps of leathery leaves that often have thin, peeling fibers at their edges. Tall flower stalks bear nodding blooms in early summer. Combine with other desert plants or plant in containers. Needs sunny, dry conditions similar to those in its native Texas and northern Mexico. Do not water in the dry season.

Flower spikes as long as 9 feet on older plants. 'Rubra' is a bright red-flowered cultivar.
