This south-of-the-border cousin of the California Poppy has clear yellow flowers with stiff stems. If cut before the buds open, they will last up to a week in water. The feathery clumps of silvery blue-green foliage grace mixed beds, borders and windowboxes. Prefers alkaline soil, and will not tolerate wet conditions. Usually an annual, but can winter in a greenhouse (and will even bloom). Grows as a perennial in frost-free climates. Soak seeds before planting, sow in late summer or early autumn before night temperatures drop below 50º F. Remove faded blooms to prolong flowering.
