Hypericum calycinum

St. John's Wort, Aaron's Beard

These shrubs and perennials have long-blooming, bright yellow flowers in summer. Evergreen in warmer climates, most are 3- to 5-feet-tall mounding shrubs of arching stems with neatly paired leaves. The low-growing Hypericum calycinum is commonly planted as a ground cover. Excellent for controlling erosion. Once established, these tough and resilient plants stand neglect, drought and poor soils. Most make good seaside plants. Plant in masses on hillsides, in flower borders or as informal hedges.

A vigorous ground cover with large, yellow bushy flowers which withstands heat, drought, poor soil, and competition. Cut to ground in early spring every other year. Can be invasive.
