Grown for their clusters of showy, cuplike flowers, these North American evergreen shrubs grow well in naturalized woodland areas. Plant in combination with rhododendrons or azaleas. They prefer moist, peaty, acid soil, and full to partial sun. Propagate by cuttings or by seed.

This slow grower has rich green, glossy, oval leaves. Its attractive white to rose bell-shaped flowers hang in terminal clusters. Watch for leaf spot.
