Gayfeather Rose, Blazing Star

Native to the American prairies, showy Gayfeathers grow near Rudbeckia and Echinacea. Butterflies enjoy their tall, plume-like, white or purple flowers which appear in summer from the tops of leaves. Mix with other perennials in the back of borders or in cutting gardens. Sold as bareroot plants in winter or in containers. Lift and divide the fleshy roots in spring or fall.

The 6 to 15 inch dark purple spikes on this dwarf variety open from the top down and make good cut or dried flowers. Blooms early to mid-summer. Plant reaches 18 to 25 inches tall.
