Lotus berthelotii

Parrot's Beak

The bright, mostly pea-shaped flowers of the Lotus have been prized since ancient times. Some have edible pods, said to be honey-sweet. Silvery, fine-textured foliage adds to their beauty. Use as a small-scale ground cover, in rock gardens and hanging baskets, or planted along walls where branches can trail. Give good drainage to prevent root rot.
Lotus berthelotii, Parrot's Beak
Exotic and eye-catching, its bright orange and scarlet flowers look like the beak of a colorful tropical bird. This slender bush's silvery gray foliage is also noteworthy.
