Only 1 species exists in this group, Lyonothamnus floribundus. Found on islands off the coast of California, this graceful, fast-growing evergreen is popular for its foliage and flowers. Its thick, fernlike leaves are glossy green on top and hairy below. Its masses of flowers bloom creamy white. The reddish-brown bark on its slender trunk peels off in long strips. Will not tolerate lime, alkaline or chalky soils. Best planted in the shelter of a sunny wall. A native of rocky slopes, canyons, oak woodlands and chaparral, it needs good drainage. |

Its narrow crown reaches 50 feet tall.
