Use these desert shrubs and trees from tropical America as informal background shrubs or patio trees. They reach 12 to 15 feet tall and need no water once established. Their white puffball flowers grow in small spikes above finely cut leaves. Plant in full sun. Some types are killed by frost, but come back with warmer weather.

Native to the foothills of Arizona's Rincon Mountains, it remains evergreen in regions without frost.
