Mimulus cardinalis

Scarlet Monkey Flower

These summer-blooming, sticky-to-the-touch subshrubs were given their common name because the two-lipped, spotted flowers look like monkey faces. Grow as annuals in cool, northern climates. Most need full sun and lots of moisture, though hybrids can tolerate some shade. Plant along stream beds or in well-watered borders and beds. Plants self-sow in good conditions.
