For jewel-like edging, border, rock garden, hanging basket or container plants, their clusters of cup-like blooms fit the bill. These rapid-growing 1- to 2-foot-tall plants are excellent cut flowers. Long-flowering, the ¾-inch-wide flowers bloom in white, bronze, crimson, yellow, pink, lavender-blue and bicolors. A dwarf type is also available. This South African annual likes cool, dry summers, and does best in cool coastal or mountain areas, where summer nights drop below 65º F. Start from seed 4 to 6 weeks before last spring frost. In frost-free areas, sow seeds in fall for winter and spring flowering. Pinch to encourage bushy growth. |

Its masses of small, somewhat trumped-shaped flowers bloom in every color except green, with most flowers boasting multicolor petals.
