Ochagavia carnea

Ochagavia lindleyana

There are five species of these succulent bromeliads, native to Chile. Rose or yellow flowers appear low in their rosettes of many spiny, narrow leaves. Only one species, Ochagavia carnea, is commonly grown. Plant on rocks or in the ground in sunny location.

Bright, rosy bracts the size of tennis balls surround its pink to lavender flowers with bright yellow stamens. Ash-gray, scaly and shiny leaves with small spines reach 18 inches long.
