Plumbago auriculata

Cape Leadwort, Cape Plumbago, Plumbago capensis

Grown for their long-blooming flowers and rapid growth, these tropical, climbing, semi-evergreen shrubs and vines trail and drape themselves over fences, banks and warm walls. They can climb 12 to 20 feet long where supported by a trellis or fence. Where winters are long and frosty, shrub grows to only 2 feet. Primrose-like flowers range from white to blue, blooming for most of the year. Like full sun, though it bleaches flower color. Need little water once established. Buy plants in bloom to check flower color, or start from cuttings, division or seed. Prune out old or damaged growth in spring.
