Pulmonaria angustifolia

Blue Lungwort, Cowslip Lungwort, Soldiers and Sailors

Offering deep color under trees, Lungworts will grow in shady areas where other flowering plants will not. Like others in the Borage family, its clusters of flowers change color as they age, from pink or red to blue. This accounts for one of the common names, Soldiers and Sailors. Some foliage is white-spotted, often spectacularly so. Good in containers, and as edging with ferns, Azaleas and Rhododendrons. Easy to care for. Water after planting and during extended dry spells. Divide for new plants.
