Renanthera storiei

With plenty of light and warmth, these scrambling vines produce a phenomenal floral display. A cascade of yellow, orange and red tiger-striped flowers dances on branching stems. Outdoor plants only in sultry climates, they prefer a minimum of 65º F. Grow smaller plants in a pot; move larger ones to a basket and stake the vining stems. Use the coarsest orchid mix. Stimulate the aerial roots' growth by guiding them over the surface, and misting often. In summer growth, water generously and feed diluted liquid fertilizer. Need less heat and moisture in winter, but as much indirect light as possible. As new leaves form above the old, the stem base grows bare. Cut off the lower part and replant the leafy top.
Renanthera storiei
The divided lips on its rosy blossoms look like puffy Dutchman's breeches.
