Roystonea regia

Cuban Royal Palm

Along avenues, in groups or masses, these fast-growing slender palms are beautiful and stately. Their slender trunks often bulge in the middle. Their blooms are small and white. They resist wind and salt spray, but must be protected from heavy winds in sub-tropical gardens. Give ample water during growing season and less at other times.

Its 10-foot-long, feather-shaped fronds grow upright at first, then arch and droop with age. Each frond is divided into narrow, leathery, bright green leaflets. Crown reaches 50 to 70 feet tall.
