Sciadopitys verticillata

Japanese Umbrella Pine, Umbrella Pine

Only one of this group is well known, the Japanese Umbrella Pine. Considered a choice landscape tree for its glossy evergreen foliage, its common name comes from its broader, drooping mature shape. It grows slowly to 30 feet. Plant singly as specimen or accent trees, or group several as a border. Protect from strong winds. In hot summer climates, give afternoon shade. Transplant in spring.
