These often stemless evergreen perennials have tightly packed rosettes of leaves and smaller offsets that cluster around the parent rosette. The star-shaped flowers bloom in summer in clusters of yellow, white, green, pink, or red. Although not showy, they are attractive when viewed in detail. Blooms die after setting seed, but offsets are easily planted. Need good drainage.

The most commonly grown Sempervivum in American gardens, this plant has 4 to 6-inch-wide, gray-green rosettes and bristle-pointed, red-brown leaves. Spreads quickly by offshoots.
